Location: Springfield is situated approximately 65 kilometers north of Melbourne, the state capital. It lies within the catchment area of Deep Creek, a tributary of the Maribyrnong River1.

History: In the 1860s, the Springfield pastoral run was established by James Fulton. Interestingly, the original Springfield property was located to the west of Deep Creek, whereas the present-day Springfield is on the eastern side of the creek. The area was once part of the historic Shire of Springfield, which merged with the Shire of Romsey in 1916. Today, Springfield remains on the extreme eastern edge of the Shire of Macedon Ranges, with Kyneton as its administrative center.
